Interspiritual Worship Services
The term “Interspiritual” was coined by Wayne Teasdale, a catholic monk, author and activist for building common ground among the world's religions. On the surface, religions differ in many ways. In the worst cases these differences can fester and grow into hatred and violence. War in the name of religion has plagued society since the existence of religion, and continues to do so today. Finding a way to connect across cultures and religion is a critical step in healing the many wounds of humanity and our planet.
Lying deep in the hearts of all people is where Teasdale found what he was looking for. Regardless of the location, culture or religion, he discovered that the inward journey to the Self ultimately yields the same result for all: a state of peace, joy, compassion and love. The paths to this enlightened state are many, but the final destination is the same, a personal connection to the divine.
We refer to this inward journey as the mystical path. Nearly every religion has produced mystics who have directly experienced the divine source within. What they all have in common is a profound sense of peace, compassion, solidarity with all living beings, and a sense of oneness with the whole of creation. They are also deeply non-violent, as any harm caused to another is harm caused to themselves.
What would the world look like if we promoted a path that led to our inner selves? If we taught oneness rather than separation?
In this worship service, we will discuss, explore and practice multiple paths to the sacred source within. This process of self-discovery is more powerful in a group setting, so those who attend will benefit not just from the group energy, but from the diversity of ideas and practices that will be shared. All are welcomed and accepted as they are. This is a place where love truly has a home.
